My research sits at the intersection of clinical informatics, machine learning, and health services — turning the data hospitals already collect into tools that make care safer and health systems easier to run.
Recent work spans clinical decision support system implementation and evaluation, real-time monitoring of ICU and emergency department strain, natural language processing and large language models for clinical risk prediction, and simulation and data assimilation for emergency department disaster response.
I also study the data itself — whether electronic health records are fit for purpose for tasks like automated antimicrobial prescribing audits and infection surveillance, and how to detect and mitigate digital overdiagnosis introduced by clinical software. At the University of Melbourne, I supervise a group of graduate students and research staff working across these themes.
